A former Northampton restaurant could be converted into a church.

A planning application to turn the site of the former Fort Kochi Indian restaurant, in Wellington Street, Northampton town centre, into a place of worship for the Christ Image Assembly Northampton chapter has been submitted to the borough council.

The refurbishment would install a mini kitchen with a main church auditorium of around 100 square-metres.

A consultation is open until December 11, although the only direct neighbours to the proposed church are the Quaker Meeting House behind the former restaurant.

The church will be an arm of the Global Ministry of Christ Image Assembly, which has its operational base in Nigeria. It is led by lead minister Henry Akintunde.
